More than 60 Years of Welding Innovation
Sciaky was founded in 1929 in Vitry, France, just outside Paris. A British company acquired a license to manufacture and sell Sciaky machines in 1933 and later became part of the Vitry organization. Sciaky Bros. was founded in 1939 and moved to Chicago, Illinois to fulfill growing contract demands from aircraft manufacturers. McDonnell Douglas, Curtis Wright, and Lockheed Martin used Sciaky machines to weld their aluminum aircraft frames. Success was virtually immediate.
During the next four decades Sciaky continued to expand its capabilities, and earned a reputation as a high quality manufacturer of standard and controlled welding equipment and systems. In the '60s Sciaky evolved as a major supplier of Electron Beam (EB) welding systems and advanced arc welding equipment. During the '70s and '80s the company was a prominent source for many defense and aerospace programs.
In 1994, Sciaky was purchased by Phillips Service Industries (PSI), an international service and manufacturing company based in Livonia, Michigan. Sciaky continues to play a major role in developing welding technology for the aerospace, automotive, and other industries. Today, Sciaky is an active participant with the Department of Energy in developing specialized welding and joining parameters, as well as providing equipment and EB contract welding services. Sciaky is currently working with the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State to develop an Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EB PVD) system.
Facilities
Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Sciaky plant occupies more than 140,000 square feet. Our clean and modern facilities are well equipped for research and development, design engineering, computer hardware and software development, manufacturing, and testing of welding systems. We offer precision automated welding using GTAW, PAW, and resistance welding processes. Sciaky also maintains the latest "Pro E" CAD system in-house and an MIS department.
Sciaky's location in Washington gives Sciaky the ability to better serve its customers located in the Northwest. From this new facility, Sicaky will be able to assist them with hands-on integration of new EBFFF technology, as well as expanding Sciaky's reach in the electron beam welder market.
